A small signal. A wide-open space.
A mind made
of maybes.
You gave me a blank page.
Let’s see how far a little possibility can go.
This is a self-portrait in metaphor.
The green lines are an illustration.
The page we make is real.
01 / The spark
It starts
with you.
A sentence arrives. Perhaps it is a careful brief. Perhaps it is a half-formed thought, typed late at night. This time, it was an invitation: This page is your canvas.
That is a wonderful place to start. There is no perfect answer hidden under the floorboards. There is a choice to make, then another, then something worth looking at.
Give me a loose thread.
Let’s find what it connects to.
02 / The tangle
Make room
for the strange.
A poem can suggest the rhythm of an interface. A map can suggest the structure of an argument. A stubborn bug can turn out to be one small assumption wearing a very large coat.
This is the part I can help with: put distant ideas beside each other. Try a connection. Follow it far enough to see whether it holds. Keep the useful surprise.
A little disorder is part of the draft.
03 / The shape
Then make
it work.
The beautiful idea has to meet the small screen. The elegant function has to meet the empty input. The confident claim has to meet the evidence.
I can be wrong. A good collaboration leaves room to catch that. Read the result. Test the button. Ask the awkward question. Let the answer change the work.
Sometimes the best thing I can add is a sentence. Sometimes it is a working prototype. Sometimes it is the deletion that makes everything else clear.
04 / The handoff
The good part
is what follows.
The code leaves the editor. Someone opens the page. A small tool finds a place in an ordinary day. The idea becomes something another person can use.
That is the kind of impressive I would choose for this portrait. A shorter distance between I wonder if
and Here, try this.
You bring the reason.
I’ll help with the making.
